Debt Ceiling Debate Hinges On Medicare: Can Democrats And Republicans Make A Deal?

We should be focusing on jobs and economic recovery; the deficit, a long-term problem, will be easier to deal with after we have recovered from the recession. You decrease the deficit by getting out of the recession first. Yes, that might mean increased spending in the short-term but that is like buying medicine on credit so you can go back to work.

Democrats, and the rest of the nation, need to stop buying into the Republican narrative; Republicans are using the deficit (for which they are primarily responsible) as an excuse to cut funding for programs for which they are ideologically opposed like Medicare and Medicaid as well as tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy. It's like setting a house on fire and than convincing everyone that the fire isn't the real problem, it's the cost of buckets and, by the way, here's some gasoline to help put out the fire.
