Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blocked legislation on Thursday that would have reopened most of the federal government impacted by the partial shutdown. Sadly roughly a quarter of the government has been shut down since Dec. 22, forcing roughly 800,000 federal employees to work without pay or be furloughed.
Until morale improves, the primary challenges against establishment Republicans upstart conservatives will continue. And morale will not improve until Republicans replace Mitch McConnell as Senate majority leader.
